Things I love #2

Ah, Cassette Society…how have I never heard of you?

Until this dress (the black and silver). It was love at first intergalactic sight. (don’t tell me you don’t get a spacey vibe from the dress, too…) I go weak for anything astronomy, celestial, spacey and astronautey. Also anything alieny and extraterrestrial.

Love it. Makes a short dress or a top if I ruche it up a little. Perfect to glam up my usual mostly black outfits.

Things I love #1

This flower hairclip (came in a set of two- so pictured is one separated from its twin) was a gift from a dear friend, bought in Bali.

Apart from the Bali-esque images it conjures whenever I look at it, the lovely clip never fails to cheer me up - how can it not do so with its cheerful colour and massive statement-making whenever it goes on my hair? Strangers smile at me when I wear this clip - so its superpowers must extend to cheering others up too.

I love wearing it with an all-black assemble…not a hard thing to do considering I dress like any other regular Melburnian. Love the contrast it creates…sounds cliche, I know, like those magazines telling you to pair a floral summer dress with leather gladiators or jacket to make the look edgier.

But it’s true. And you know it.

I’m not a florals kinda person…but for hairclips such as this one, I willingly make an exception!

I was thinking of high school and how I used to sit next to Dani and I realised I miss her a lot.

Of course I miss the rest too but I think I met everyone else fairly recently and I’m pretty up to scratch with their lives. (I think lah haha)

But Daniele Soh Ling Wei, we have not spoken for ages. I miss that. I even miss you attempting to creep me out with your saccharin voice. I have been initiating chats on MSN but you never reply! emoticon

Hoping all is well with you in KL (yes at least I know she’s in KL - thanks, Twitter) and I hope we can meet soon. Because it’s about time.

I baked!

I was feeling pretty down - I was (and I am!) really missing raya in Malaysia - sudah lima tahun tak beraya di tanah airku!

So I baked.

Banana cake - reduced sugar, because the second thing I made was something pretty sweet…witness

Peanut butter cookies (the really crumbly kind - fah sang peng)

onde onde made by my friend J

Aside from oven issues - guys, I have a super oven, any recipes that call for say X minutes and Y degrees Celsius I have to modify to X/2 minutes and like, Y-50 degrees celsius - they all turned out alright, not bad for a baking noob like me, heh

Anyway what a crazy oven. Has a mind of its own. C used to complain about it all the time, as she bakes a LOT, and I use to laugh it off but now I truly believe we have an anthropomorphic, maniacal oven!

Soon I have to reassure readers of this blog there is more to me than shopping…

I bought (Dani would love this opening line) more stuff: two pairs of shoes (leather! black! yay!) and three spring/summer tops.

Justification: they didn’t break the bank AND I need them - I can’t live in Threadless tees all summer, can I??

I bought the perfect cream silk top today. And undies. And a cool necklace. And a (boring) basic tank top.

Oops.

I bought a pair of gorgeous black leather boots some time ago….but never wore them as they still needed waterproofing. I refused to pay like $30 for a waterproofing spray to only use it once (my other leather stuff don’t need it)….so I just never got round to protecting the boots. Yesterday at my brother’s place I noticed he had a can of this stuff near his shoe rack….cue me asking him if I could use it. He just gave it to me as apparently he and his girlfriend never used it at all….so it was just sitting there, and they were just about to throw it out. Yes, I’ll gladly take it…

Lesson: for something you’re rarely going to use, just ask around if you could borrow, instead of buying….saves you $, no extra clutter, and it’s likely that at least one of your friends has it… Duh, Irina..

Although it’s officially spring now, I know there are gonna be some cold days and I will be wearing my full-leather boots :D

I have to be a tightarse for a little while. Because I totally blew my budget the last couple of months. Thankfully, fasting is going to make that easier - no incidental food and drink purchases during the day when I’m in the city or at uni between classes.

Oh yeah uni has started. I have to work very hard this semester. But I’m already slacking…This has to change. It will change…tomorrow.
